Why This Site Exists

Because a wound nobody will name never closes.

Anyone raised in these Churches eventually asks, quietly, why we are not in communion. And the answer is a door that has been painted shut.

Open it and this is what you find

The Copts were called monophysites: as though they taught that Christ’s humanity was absorbed and destroyed. But the Coptic Church anathematised Eutyches, who taught something like that, and has never stopped confessing that Christ is consubstantial with us in His humanity.

The Byzantines were accused of dividing Christ into two, of being secret Nestorians. But Chalcedon explicitly condemned Nestorius and confessed one and the same Christ, one Person, not two.

Two Churches, each condemning an error the other also condemns, each hearing in the other’s vocabulary a heresy the vocabulary was never built to carry.

And the Lord's own standard

“Unless you turn and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:3

This is not an argument against theology. The Fathers were the most rigorous minds the world has produced, and precision about Christ has saved the Church from real disasters more than once. St Athanasius stood almost alone against an empire over a single letter in a single word, and he was right.

The point is narrower. A definition is a fence, not the field. It exists to keep wolves out. When the fence itself becomes the reason two flocks of the same sheep cannot graze together, something is wrong with the fence.

Whatever Matthew 18:3 means, it cannot mean that entry to the Kingdom depends on mastering the distinction between physis and hypostasis in fifth-century Greek. Millions in both families have been baptized, communed, forgiven their enemies, fasted until their bodies were thin, and died in Christ without ever hearing those words. They were not turned away at the gate.
